Hello,

so since this problem wont go away and ensl season 6 is about to begin I have to ask you guys. My game stutters like crazy, i get 20-90 FPS (90 should be enough but somehow it isnt..) instead of my usual 100+.

When i move the crosshair it does not feel fluid at all, sometimes when i hit a skulk the hitsound is delayed ect end of story is the game is not playable for me, im shooting like 13% acc and i cant chain skulk jumps.

So i know NS2 is badly optimized performance wise, but
my PC was always able to play the game without any major problems but then 1 or 2 weeks ago it started to lag like crazy. (maybe lagging isnt the right word idk)

PC:
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series + the onboard one Intel HD 4600 which is basically garbage
Processor: Intel Core i5 4670
8GB ram
Windows 7, 64 bit

I have uploaded a few screenshots with r_stats on and I hope that some of you guys with more knowledge about this subject can identify the problem because im a technical noob.

That's strange, maybe try to reinstate NS2 and check if you're video card is not overheating.

Tried COMPLETELY reinstalling NS2 including AppData folder, unsubscribing from all Workshop items, etc.?
What video card driver version?
Did you change anything when the game started behaving strangely?

edit: Also, AVG and Avira Antivir have huge impact at the moment regarding NS2. So if you use one of them, disable it while playing.

@Hyste; I have checked that. The AMD Radeon is not overheating, the Intel one.. well it has >90° i dont know but it should not be used for gaming, steam says that the AMD one is used when gaming.

@Snix: I have tried reinstalling ns2 + deleting the appdata folder. It did not change anything.
I have changed the Internet provider, the speed however is not that different from before.
Ping is fine, download and upload are both slow but it should be enough for gaming.

I also changed some of the ns2 settings. I once used windowed mode and that was the reason for the stuttering, when I changed to fullscreen it was fine for a day or two, then it started again..

I also do not download / upload while playing and I try to close unnessecary programs / internet tabs

Try disabling integrated GPU in bios, maybe your PC is having a problem with switching between them. And 90° is quite a lot for iGPU that shouldn't be working.

I always thought that both graphics cards work togehter or sth and you cant turn the onboard one off, but i guess ill try it then.

Don't forget to go post this on the official NS2 forums as well if nothing anyone suggests here seems to be helping. That's where more of the troubleshoot-y things go on more often. :)

Clean your hard drive.... at least that helped ME once :D

Check your CPU temperature, but in any case, try dusting your case.

Well, i would try following:
Deinstall the current grapics drivers with http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
Reinstall both graphics drivers and directX

If this doesnt help, try a new windows profile

Well it has always been fine for me, im not even sure that fps are the problem.
Installed the new driver for me graphics card, didnt help. :|

Can sth with the settings be the reason? Maybe NS2+ settings idk

Did you check the Antivir suggestion yet?

NS2+ shouldn't be the problem, especially if you didn't change anything. Reset it to default, just in case.

CPU at 90°C is overheating, you may have a problem with your fan, I think your processor is throttling and that's why you have sometimes this low FPS.

And no the iGPU and your Radeon are not working at the same time, when your graphic card work, the integrated gpu in the cpu is not working. :p

And btw this is not possible to have more than 15-20 fps anyway with the iGPU so imo he is not working.

Thats true, so we can say for sure that the right graphics card is working. But the 90° are on the Intel graphics ard, the onboard one! The AMD only has ~56°. Checked the fans, all of them are working properly.

@Snix: What do you mean Antivir suggestion? I have run a check with avast! :O

@lots: There is not much dust, but I cleaned the bit that was there.

@Bauer: I may try that if nothing else works.

Disable the Antivirus tool while playing or uninstall it completely (using the uninstall tool on the avaast website) to see if that's the cause.
It can have a huge impact on performance. I switched four times before finding one that doesn't give me bad fps/stuttering.

I have analyzed the problems and found that the cpu is too warm. (52C° Idle 90C° load)
Lives anyone near Augsburg, and can view the problem once?

The "onboard" Intel Graphic isnt onboard, it is part of the CPU.
So if your intel "card" shows a temperature of 90C° its the temperature of the CPU.

Use Cpu-Z while ingame to check if the cpu is throttling.
Around 105C° is the shutdown temperature btw.

Is you CPU overclocked?
If so, remove the overclocking for testing.
Check the case air flow.

If this doesnt help, remove the CPU cooler and replace the heat paste.
Are you using the boxed cooler?
If so, a new cooler might help.

Thanks @ everyone who helped me :)

The problem is now solved thanks to Link, who guided me through everything step by step with teamviewer today! ^.^

So what happened? When I transported my PC in my car it must have fallen over at some point which caused the CPU cooler to loosen.


Removing and correctly placing the CPU cooler helped, instead of a CPU temp of >90° i now have 50°C while playing which means the CPU does not go into "save mode" anymore and the game does not stutter.

I owe you more than a pizza Link. Maybe also some beer. ;P
