NSL Season 4 Sign Ups Closed Today
It's astounding that over 50 teams have already declared their intent to play in Season 4. This is just a quick reminder that today is the last day to sign up. At midnight Pacific Standard Time, sign ups will be closed and we'll have a better breakdown of seedings and the divisions. If your team hasn't signed up or does not have a full 6 person roster, do so now or forfeit your chance to participate in the coming season that starts in a few weeks. If your team isn't seeded correctly or would like to do a seeding match to move to a higher division, please let me know and we can arrange a match before the deadline of March 15th. GLHF.
Edit (March 8th): A small request from teams, please refrain from changing your team names until the season starts.
Current Season 4 Seedings & Divisional Breakdowns
Edit (March 9th): Sign ups are now closed with 53 teams eligible to for next season! Please contact me if you intend to do a seeding match. Matches must be completed before end of day next Saturday, March 15th.
Edit (March 10th): If your team has disbanded, please let me know so I don't schedule season matches for your team.

Would be nice to see Albatrossi on premier :O

Wouldn't they have to prove themselves by winning div 1 first? ;)

It's exasperating to keep saying, to the same group of people, that if teams want to compete in a certain division, it's simply a matter of playing a seeding match and proving that they can be competitive at that level. Records speak for themselves.

malga | iMAGINE
I'm not saying you should put them on premier, I know they'd have to play a seeding match if they wanted to play on that division.
I just wanted to express my opinion about this new team :)

Where i can read more about seeding matches? There is nothing about it here: http://www.ensl.org/articles/400
How many seeding matches can one team play ? Is it only one seedigng match, or it is possible to play more than one?
9 March 2014, 05:54
Decoy
Check here Tachi - http://www.ensl.org/articles/714 Section 2D
You can play two seeding matches as of previous rules, and I doubt that's been changed. We'll have to double check with Zefram though!
9 March 2014, 07:06
Zefram
It gets ridiculous if teams are constantly challenging and getting nowhere. My earlier post http://www.ensl.org/articles/856 is hopefully clear on the format. Let's give a max of 2 matches per challenging team.

If I were you Zefram, I would put 6 teams in premiere and 8 in div 1, instead of 5 in premiere and 9 in div 1. Maybe some teams should play a seeding match to see which one fits best into premiere.
If you have 9 teams in div 1, the group play will take longer to play for div 1 compared to the rest of the league. I don't know, I just like the idea of every division playing the playoffs at the "same time". And that would be a long wait for premiere div if you keep the divisions this way.
9 March 2014, 15:21
Zefram
I've already considered that and I'm perfectly fine with the season ending at different weeks for the different divisions and the playoffs being played at different times. It'll give us a better chance to staff those matches too.

So, div 1 finals when everyone else are taking breaks. That will surely get alot of attention since premiere div finished several weeks earlier.
For what it's worth, I am happy that I don't have to deal with unsatisfied players anymore. Now I can be one.

300 ping in a bit of a overkill, you will have 190-220. That's a big difference. It's not as bad as you think. I'm sure yourself being a grown adult can survive.

@nezz are you trying to imply that high ping won't affect outcome of matches played?
I'm pinging 350 to your teams private server.
Which leaves me to believe your ping will be similar on an european server if not higher.
East US server give me around 110 ping which is playable but not everyone from europa will ping that low on US east, I seen european friends ping 180 on US east.
Would be fine if it was one or maybe even two matches per season against US east team or something but atm my division group has 4 out of 7 matches to be played with high ping (two NA teams, two AUS teams).
Which is pretty shit, for an official league, in my opinion.

Arj | Ant
Div 1 has 5 out of 8 with big ping gaps. Ragequits incoming.
Apart from ping issues, scheduling is a nightmare..
14 March 2014, 10:33
Arj | Ant
Wild idea; make 2 groups with regional splits.
Div 1:
Group A: Gnarcolepsy, Mimic, Singularity, Joan of Arc, Envy, Cheesecake, Raze
Group B: Albatrossi, Ant, onFire, Virtual Dejection, Gorge Casting Couch, WongaNS, Vexta
Div 2:
Group A: Aphex, Mister, Intent, The Bottom End, Table for Six, AUS
Group B: 2hoursLater, Berend's Bastards, elpheer, Radical, OMNOM, Gorge Busters
Div 3:
Group A: Silvermoon, Frequency, Work in Progress, MindTech, Lucky Fkers
Group B: TAW, ACV, HBZ, 3hrsLater, Vexta Ohm, Neuromancers
Div 4 can stay unchanged.
Semis and finals:
Then have semis with ping issues; that would be 1 or 2 matches instead of 5.

@Berend Last season my team played in a div with literally nothing but euros and aussies and we were an NA team. Same thing for my group for the NS2WC. My west coast guys were pinging ~200 to Europe.
It's not that bad, just do a couple high ping scrims and get used to it. YOU'LL BE FINE.

i vote too for reginal splits like arj said.
its gonna minimise the amout of high ping and hard to organise games greatly.
Most of my team dosnt like to play australian teams with 200 ping on sunday 13:00CET to 14:00CET starting time where you normaly have family/other stuff that you can do.
If you dont mind playing high ping dosnt mean nobody else does so can we have like a vote which divison split (regional or worldwide) it should be.

Verslayer | El Niño de la Curva
I think that Arj comment has a point.
On S3, NSL STAFF started to mix teams of diferent regions and that maked a lot of schedulling problems and therefor a lot of forfeits....
Please, keep Europe as an own Region(group), and get America-Canada + AUS + ¿1korean team? on the same region(group).
That would make schedulling very easy and would give only problems in 1-2 final matches instead of regular season matches.

Teams that sign up for the NSL should do so under the assumption that you are going to play matches in different regions, and you should expect that you will need to be flexible one day on a weekend for a match.
It's the Natural Selection League, no longer the "european natural selection league" or "North american natural selection league". People are welcome to start their own regional leagues like Ausns2 has if you want to play only regionally.
My opinion.
14 March 2014, 14:33
Mega | pubstars
The assumtion of playing matches in diffrent regions if you signed up ok granted.
But not liked and we know it can work without international play like in season2 and since we have nearly as much teams as in season2 wheres the problem going back to regional play like season2 ?
I mean see season3 as an experiment and the result was probly more fair games but also more forfeits and harder schedulings and high ping rage.
so in my opinion the negative points kinda outweight the positive points. (since we are talking about opinions)
Also as addional note Arjs suggestion was having the Season games Regional only what would reduce the amout/times/numbers of these negative points and you would still have Your Finals of the Season with International Games.
Also in case the argument comes: "But the that would screw up the Seedings of the last Season" well take a look how many players of the last seasons are still in the same Teams or how many old teams are still there i bet its not even 40% of all.

As much as I would like to play low ping good time matches, it doesn't make sense anymore. NSL is international, if you split by region, it's not fair to Oceanic and NA players if they get mixed together. Same situation for them. At div 1 the scheduling for us will be hardcore, but I am prepared for it and if I remember from the Zef's forum post there will be rules to help with it.

Here some kind of summary cause people dont get the full potencial why its better to have Regional play yet like it seems:
.
Regional play:
pro:
more good ping matches/no high ping rage
easy scheduling
less forfeits
negative:
unfairer games trough less teams put togehter?
smaller league (not sure if bad i like it)
.
Intercontinental play:
pro:
fairer games trough more teams put togehter?
bigger league (not sure if good)
negative:
more bad ping matches/high ping rage
hard scheduling (australians+europeans people works only 13-14 CET on sundays asap)
more forfeits
.
The pros outweight the negatives on Regional divisions to Intercontinental divisions by 1 Point at least.
intercontinental divisions got tryed (on season3) (as an Experiment ?).
Regional divisions got tested over at least 2 seasons (season 1 and season2)
should say from it self that it works as least as good as Intercontinental divisions.
Otherwise the only French league and the only Australian league wouldnt even exist right ?
15 March 2014, 00:02
Kaneh
I really don't see why not. The whole point of a league is to compare yourself to other teams out there. If you just want to play with low ping, then play more pcw/scrims. if you want actual competition, then play internationally with teams that are actually at your skill level.
if you don't want to 'deal with ping' and 'deal with scheduling' then just go play pcw/scrims all day. Don't make bad skill groupings to just stomp around to feel better.
15 March 2014, 01:14
Tinki | We're grumpy
Finals are here anyway, it won't change anything. And i don't know for other div but in div2 EU teams can be in the same group and it won't be "bad skill groupings". But i guess auto 4/0 win forfeit is a good thing for some teams (like it was in season 3...)
15 March 2014, 12:47
Zefram
There were almost 150 matches total last season. 29 of them were forfeits. The overwhelming reason for those 29 forfeits? Teams had disbanded. Teams know their opponents weeks, sometimes months, in advance. You can't tell me that if you have more than 4 weeks to plan a match, you're unable to. That's just poor planning and communication.
15 March 2014, 18:57
nezz | Envy
Bernard, you play middle ground server. ACtually, If u remember Sweden VS aus we played home and away and we got stomped in aus servers and nearly raped them in EU servers. go figure.
Scheduling is not a nightmare, unless your team can only play 1 hour a week. If anything Australians always go out of our way to schedule matches that suit you guys more then us.
I find it easy to organise against EU teams rather then US teams well.
ENSL might have went well for EU & US. But Australia struggle to get a good competition going. espeically for the higher tier teams in australia. Get maybe 1 decent game out of 10. Kind of pointless.

im looking at megas pros and cons and how to the pros outweigh the cons? that u found more of them?
Regional play:
pro:
more good ping matches/no high ping rage
we have plenty of good ping matches in pcw etc so having like what? 5% matches high ping is bad?
easy scheduling
oh wow i guess commitment is something never heard of... only 1 div1 team is complaining about it...
less forfeits
goes with smaller league... less forfeits > more stomps meh
negative:
unfairer games trough less teams put togehter?
absolutely... i´d rather have forfeits they are not wasting my time
smaller league (not sure if bad i like it)
.
Intercontinental play:
pro:
fairer games trough more teams put togehter?
yes, seeing last season div2 the only ones we lost to was raze from australia so ye rather play good high ping team then bad low ping team
bigger league (not sure if good)
same reason
negative:
more bad ping matches/high ping rage
hard scheduling (australians+europeans people works only 13-14 CET on sundays asap)
seeing last season australians are really forthcoming with the scheduling making at as easy as they can on us if u cant appreciate that well then forfeit
more forfeits
...
i´ve played a season full of stomps and its fkin boring so dont mess with my div1
