Hello everyone,
Some of you already know, and for those who don't, I will be hosting a tournament on the weekend of February 20th called 'The Divisional'. This tournament is a guinea pig to test the paid model of competitive play in the NS2 community and is open currently to the EU and NA community.
In short, I hope to have a weekend tournament every month for Divisions 4, 3, 2 and hopefully 1. The point of the tournament is to give an incentive for teams to play and stay together, and also spark interest in the competitive community of NS2.
I have links on my website regarding rules, entry fee price, dates and other information about the tournament. Currently, the first and only contest is for Division 4 and costs $5 per team. It will last 48 hours (or less) and be once a month per Division.

My hope is that with the Freshman Tourny, ENSL and 'The Divisional' the competitive community will continue to grow and bring our community closer together.
Depending on the outcome of this contest, Divisions 3 and 2 will be the next tournaments thrown in March. Please spread the word and help market this idea as well. Thank you.

the good thing: if everything works out we have a tournament each months from div 5-1 (I refer the newcomer tournament as div 5 here) and everyone can see the difference tothe next higher/lower division without the need to focus on their own game.
But I have no idea if the teams are willing to spend money for a participation, even though they did something similar with the NS2WC
haha if ns is about money people will start ratehacking like their lifely hood depends on it xD
maybe consider having a minimum of values like in ns1 to prevent that.

As weird as it sounds, bm is actually not that wrong. There are too many ways to abuse the system. When ns is going to be about money, some people will definitely start abusing those ways. While it might not even be ratehacking, the least what will happen will be teams in the wrong divisions. There's just no optimized system to value a team's worth and there will never be imo. People will start joning lower div teams to make some money, teams will disband and form new teams in order to say "hey we're not div1, we're div2 at most" and so on. After all, the only teams that can honestly say they're in the proper div are the prem teams. That's why I think bringing in money is not a good idea, people will stop playing for fun and start using unfair tricks in order to win.
Just think about what happened to DWG this season - all of a sudden they had 3 top div 1 players in their team and they still claim they're just a high div 3 team. I'm not trying to set up a new discussion about that topic in here, it's just an example (so please don't justify any of your moves now, just accept that this is the point of view of some people in the nsl)
EDIT: But of course the idea itself is not bad, motivating people to start playing competitive ns and improve and so on. It's just very important to keep these flaws of the system in mind, having a sharp eye on everyone participating to prevent things like "ratehacking", or more importantly, teams throwing their seeding matches in order to play in div4 and make money blablabla

Win 4 tourneys with your new formed teams for every division and earn around 50$ per player.
Thats a pretty amazing hourly rate and worth every hack and hr spend into training/organisation.
But maybe the mysterious "ratehacking" works here also, who knows.

Has anyone already singed up for this?
Idea isn't bad, but if you want to make it work, you'll need to keep an eye on teams and players.

@lotnik190 - currently TAW, Austrian Death Machine and NanoBytes are confirmed for participating in the tournament, other teams are deciding what to do based on availability.
As for the rest of the posts, I am fallible but I have put a lot of thought and time trying to figure out how to prevent people from taking advantage of any situation to win the tournament by nefarious means.
As Jope stated, in the rules if you are a higher division you are not allowed to just go into a random team and join to bump up the skill level. If you are a Div 1 player, you cannot join a Div 3 or 4 team and expect to participate in the tournament. This kind of action is forbidden.
I agree that eyes will have be kept on many individuals who will try to use tactics such as a new steam account or throwing games. The point is the only system we have right now that ranks individuals in NSL, if you've played on a team that was a higher Division team than the one you are on you are barred from the competition.
The community is small, everyone in the competitive or pub scene knows everyone to some extent so it is not hard to "investigate" a person to find out who they really are or roughly what level they play it. The whole point of this tournament is to garner interest in the competitive scene and give an incentive for teams to participate, ie. money and prizes.
I plan on enforcing all the rules of the tournament and will not tolerate abuse or exploitation of the rules. That will be the precedent from the beginning.
Maybe this should be advertised to all the teams in the TAW tournament after that ends? A few people I've talked to about this hadn't heard of it yet, but I think this tournament is a great idea.
Is this tournament actually happening? I only see 2 teams registered for Div 4 so far and that's it...
