Newcomer's Draft Tournament

Ready to crush the competition?

Calling all rookies and veterans! Further your knowledge of Natural Selection and gain a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie by joining the newcomer draft tournament! New to competitive? Play on a team, get coached, make risky plays! Veteran player? Profess your love for smashing in your opponent’s teeth by teaching players how to ‘git gud.’

For those who have never participated in a Newcomer’s tournament, the rules are simple: play the competitive standard of 6-versus-6 games and learn Natural Selection 2. Coaches will assist you. They’ll watch you play in real-time, dispensing advice on what can be improved such as positioning, team composition, and explain some of NS2’s more difficult mechanics. They may even get to play on your team, giving you valuable support in a fire-fight!

If you’re itching to play immediately, feel free to sign up for a website account and join the infamous Gather system! Don’t be daunted if it appears empty, players might be watching but not committing to playing just yet.

Rules are subject to change based on player signups. The Newcomer draft will be played with Natural Selection 2’s vanilla balance in an ENSL full team setting.

So come join us on June 18th, with overflow games on the 19th. Starting at 12PM (that’s noon) EST, the ENSL welcome all participants from all regions of the world. Sign up here!

I have to agree with absurdon. Its rather pointless then.
I can imagine if we lack enough newbies to join we may 'need' them to even have 6vs6.
But as soon as both teams have 6 newbies, its pointless to have vets play.

You guys do realize that a lot of coaches don't want to just teach (although some don't mind not playing) but to actually play the game as well. If you want to keep high division players from coaching, then coach the new teams yourselves. Plus, Who knows if anyone from divisions 1 and 2 will even still play the game with all its changes. Everyone has been focusing on overwatch and probably will be all summer. If anyone in D1 or even D2 coaches let alone plays in the newcomer tournament I would be surprised.

coaches only play IF they absolutely need to. other wise they spectate and provide help for the players. but if the coaches do end up playing, it will be expected of them, to either command or go easy because they arent there to win they are there to help the newcomers get better.

However that is subject to change based on the amount of signups. But if all goes as expected, the coaches will not be playing a single round

its to teach them strategies, we dont want them telling things like " Dont go in that room there is 3 skulks waiting to ambush you" instead teaching them positioning, what lifeforms are good, what are good tech builds etc. BUT NOT GHOSTING, hopefully.

specing and giving live feedback is prone to ghosting even when not intended. as long as there is no onesided spec it should not be allowed for them to spec and talk to them during game.

TAW is open to everyone, and noone on these forums speaks directly for TAW unless they specifically state that they are doing it, everyone has their own mind and their own opinions.

I'm still surprised at how much hate TAW gets on these forums, we play NS2 for the fun side, if we win or lose it doesn't matter, but for some reason people insist on "insulting" us with the term tryhard or similar... it would be laughable if it weren't pathetic.
